Onboarding Process
Volkswagen Group Logistics is currently introducing the Outbound Order Book for order-related communication of vehicle logistics, which, in addition to ordering transports, also enables the exchange of status information along the transport chain and is used to order services in the context of vehicle handling.
The Outbound Order Book can be used as a web-based application in any browser. In addition, the Outbound Order Book offers a REST API that provides the contractor with the full range of functions of the application.
The basis of the data exchange is the format of Finished Vehicle Logistics (FVL) messages, which are developed at European level in cooperation with vehicle manufacturers and logistics service providers and are currently already being implemented by many vehicle manufacturers. The aim is to provide contractors with an industry-wide uniform messaging standard that they can also use to communicate with other customers.
On this page you will find all the necessary information on how to use the Outbound Order Book and how to implement the system interface.
In order for logistics service providers to be able to retrieve their order data in the Outbound Order Book, they must first register on the RIO Platform and then book the Outbound Order Book in the RIO Marketplace. The process takes place in the following steps:
The use of the Outbound Order Book is free of charge for logistics service providers.
In the "Documents" section you will find detailed instructions on the onboarding process for the Outbound Order Book.
Information on the Outbound Order Book can also be found directly on the RIO Cloud website: https://rio.cloud/de/shipper/outbound-order-book

The Outbound Order Book offers a web-based application as well as a system interface. The interface is REST-based and is using the XML format of the Finished Vehicle Logistics (FVL) message standard for data exchange. On this site you can find all information regarding the implementation of the system interface of the Outbound Order Book as well as the usage of the FVL message standard.
FVL Message Standard
The FVL messaging standard provides contractors with an industry-wide messaging standard that they can also use to communicate with other customers.
General information on the Finished Vehicle Logstics (FVL) news can be found on the websites of the VDA, Odette and ECG.

FVL News in Volkswagen Group Logistics
Volkswagen Group Logistics uses the FVL messages in accordance with the standard and regularly coordinates the implementation with the VDA and ECG associations and their respective members in order to comply with the industry-wide possible process for the use of the messages.
Nevertheless, Volkswagen Group Logistics offers its own guideline for the implementation of FVL messages with specific descriptions of how to use the individual data fields. Furthermore, all unused optional fields and selection options have been removed to facilitate validation. You can find them in the file FVL_messages_Odette 1.2_VW 1.0_20230612.zip .
Since the messages cover a wide range of applications and Volkswagen Group Logistics has not implemented all messages, you will find an overview of the messages currently in use and their purpose on this page.
Currently used FVL messages
The following graphic shows a schematic representation of the exchange of messages between Volkswagen Group Logistics and a transport service provider.
For transport requests, message FV14a is sent to the service provider. The latter must in turn confirm the planned execution of the order with an FV14b message. As soon as the service provider has started executing the order, the status can be transmitted via an FV17 message. If it is contractually agreed, the service provider can also refuse to execute the order or report a malfunction that prevents him from executing the order by means of a specially filled FV14b message.
For vehicle handling service providers and some transport service providers, the FV18 message is also used to order the execution of services. After the implementation has been completed, the service provider must also report back the implementation via an FV18 message.
A detailed process description can be found in the document Using the Finished Vehicle Logistics Message Standard in the Process Chain - V1.1 - 20230925.pdf .
