VOLKSWAGEN GROUP ITALIA S.p.A. is the marketing company of the Volkswagen Group responsible for Italy. It was founded in 1954 by Gerhard Gumpert for the import of the Beetle. In 1974, the head office was moved from Bologna to Verona. In 1994, the brands Seat Italia and Škoda Automobili Italia were incorporated and the company became the Italian subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group. Today we market the brands Volkswagen, VW commercial vehicles, Seat, Škoda, and Audi. We have around 2,000 sales and service centers throughout Italy.
Today we have sold over 5 million vehicles from the Volkswagen Group in Italy, over 250,000 in 2006 alone.
In awareness of how important we are for the Italian market, with respect to the number of employees, turnover, sales volume etc., as of the 1 January , 2007, we have decided to rename the company VOLKSWAGEN GROUP ITALIA S.P.A. and hence to underline our affiliation to the first car manufacturer in Europe.
