Logistics performs a complex coordination task. It integrates all involved persons into the process: From Research & Development on to Procurement, Production, and Sales through to Distribution. It ensures that the market is supplied in time and enables a continuous, economic production. Our logistics is organized into different units: corporate logistics, brand logistics, and region logistics (North America, South America/Africa and Asia Pacific). They are supported by plant logistics, Volkswagen Logistics as well as a purchasing, and planning unit for transport volume within the Volkswagen Group. Focus on strategy Our Group Logistics crafts the underlying concepts for our Group’s logistical activities which are derived by the corporate targets. These targets serve as "crash barriers" resp. frameworks where brand and plant logistics can flow and optimize their processes. One key logistics' objective is to improve customer satisfaction. Logistics' cross-divisional function across the entire process chain - from the customer ordering a car on to delivering to the customer - we play an integrating role. Focus on strategy includes process-based controlling of logistics costs, the control of international logistics as well as the support of sourcing during the identification and the selection of suppliers in terms of logistics aspects in the scope of the Forward and Global Sourcing processes. We also need to mention the standardization of logistics processes and systems that ensures the seamless exchange of data and uncomplicated communication in a globally, tightly interlinked network of production sites. |
